Please Welcome Lisa Marie Rice!

Please welcome guest author, Lisa Marie Rice to the island! I’m very excited to have her here for so many reasons. **Warning…fan girl alert** She doesn’t know this, but LMR is the author who ‘introduced’ me to ebooks, Ellora’s Cave and inadvertently erotic romance in general. Years ago I somehow stumbled across her trio of ‘Midnight’ books with EC and discovered I could download books right to my computer! That alone opened up a new world to me. Of course I still bought all her books in paperback because the digital version was not enough. I wanted those books on my shelf. From there I devoured everything I could find by her and this month, she’s got a new book coming out from Avon Red! Into the Crossfire is the first in another hot trio of books called ‘The Protectors’ and it will be out July 27. Okay, that’s enough rambling from me! Please welcome the fabulous Lisa Marie Rice. She’s going to be here for the next three days and she’s been wonderful enough to answer all my questions and she’s giving away a book a day! (Dangerous Lover, Dangerous Secrets, & Dangerous Passion)

Since this is your first time on the island, there are some things we must know about you.

1. If you were stuck on a desert island what 3 things would you bring with you?

Well, that’s easy and hard. Hard because there are so many things necessary to a civilized life, lots more than just three, but if we’re going to have to strip down to basics, I guess I’d absolutely have to have my Kindle, an endless supply of sunscreen SPF 50 (I burn easily) and my computer with wi-fi. Those would be the essentials. To be able to read, to connect and not burn myself to a crisp.

2. Boxers, Briefs, boxer briefs, kilt, or commando:

This is for heroes right? Hmmm, I’m not too sure I have a definite Underwear Doctrine. Boxer Briefs, probably. Commando sounds sexy but uncomfortable. Like thongs.

3. Favorite Heroine and why: A couple of favorite heroines – one heroine from way, way back: Lindsay Danner of Tell Me No Lies by Elizabeth Lowell. She’s an incredibly appealing heroine of one of the best romantic suspense novels ever written. Annabelle Peyton of Lisa Kleypas’s Secrets of a Summer Night. I usually don’t like historicals because beyond the Vaseline over the lens of romance writers, it’s quite clear to me what the position of women was in the past, and it wasn’t pretty. Annabelle keeps her dignity intact under horrendous circumstances and shows intense loyalty to her friends at the same time. And, oddly enough, Beth Randall of J. R. Ward’s Dark Lover. It is really interesting to see her struggle with her dual nature. Those are my favorites for now. Maybe next year, or certainly in five years’ time, the list will differ.

I love that you included Beth Randall as one of your favorite heroines. Some of the women in the BDB books get overshadowed but Beth is one of my favorites too!

4. How old is your inside voice?

About 27.

5. If you could be any hero, who would you be?

Choosing some of mine – I wouldn’t mind being, say, Jack Prescott of Dangerous Lover. My men have no fear, though they’ve been in scary situations. I myself am a wuss and admire anyone who is fearless (without being stupid).

Hmm, I wouldn’t mind being with Jack Prescott! Definitely one of the hottest alpha males of all time.

6. Favorite book set on a tropical island?

Jayne Anne Krentz’s Silver Linings

7. Favorite drink to bring to the DIK party?

Prosecco, a nice dry Italian spumante/sparkling wine. Or, if we’re being fancy, a Chateauneuf du Pape.

Oh, Prosecco sounds good! Where I am it’s hot hot hot right now so that sounds very refreshing.

Thank you for visiting us today! One lucky commenter will win a copy of Dangerous Lover (check out the German cover above!) so leave a comment to be entered. (Winners for all three days will be announced Sunday morning) Tomorrow Lisa will be telling us about her five desert island keepers
so don’t forget to come back!

PLEASE NOTE: It is likely that Lisa will be traveling some during her blogging days so if you have questions and/or comments and she doesn’t respond right away, have no fear, she will be checking in later.

Total fan girl here too! I think Lisa's Midnight series was my first venture into ebooks and Ellora's Cave as well! Midnight Angel is my very favorite! :) I'm so looking forward to the new Protectors series! Great Q&A!!!

Katiebabs! I think you got Jack Prescott as one of your DIK heroes, right? One day when you're least expecting it, I'm going to swoop him up, lol :)

Blanche, I think I forgot to mention that on Saturday she's sharing an excerpt from Into the Crossfire so you'll get to see a peek into the new series :)

Enjoyed reading the comments. I am always looking for different authors to read so I have added this one to my TBR list. The book sounds really good.

Hi Lisa!!

Your book "Dangerous Lover" is still one of my all time favorite contemporaries and Jack is one of my favorite heroes whom I've bragged about on my blog many times. He was just so endearing to me and real.

I love your work and your books are an instant buy for me- I don't even need to read the back blurb.

:o)

I haven't read your books yet, Lisa, but based on the gushing I'm observing I think I am going to have to rush out and get some!

Hi Katie and Lisa! Katie introduced me to you, and yours were the first erotic romance books that I actually loved :) Couldn't put them down. I think my favorite thing about your writing style is all the emotion you pack in there. If I can write a love scene with half that much emotion and push-pull, I'll be a happy camper.
So glad to "meet" you! Keep those books coming!

I am a total total fan of Ms. Rice. It was a great interview. As an author I've reread Lisa's books at least half a dozen times, with pen in hand, trying to put my finger on her technique. There are some things you can't emulate so simply. Her books are erotic without (always) being explicit. How I can get swoony over the guys before they even touch the hero... magic.

I live in turkey. I love alpha males.I have all your books. Your books are the absolute best at creating the best alpha male characters. No one writes an alpha male character like Lisa Marie Rice!

"Five Things You Won't Find in a Lisa Marie Rice Novel," dated 2/25/08. I saw this on the HarperCollins website under News. Her books do NOT include 1. Kick-ass heroines. 2. Hero hates heroine moments. 3. Sex toys. 4. Serial killers. 5. Vampires. The article was great. Two of her comments from the article follow. "I worked for many, many years in a very difficult, mostly female profession which was chockablock with alpha females who could wrestle you to the ground while quoting Hegel, in German. They knew everything, were amazingly opinionated and boy, did I grow tired of the vibe. I don't want them in my life, why should I want them in my books?" Under sex toys she says "My men don't need sex toys to get excited, if anything, they need to be hosed down." Lisa Marie Rice is definitely on my to be re-read list. Keep those books coming.

Congrats to Lisa on her upcoming release. I only discovered her books after reading "Pursuit" and found out that she was writing under two names.

This is from LISA:

Hi all, and thanks to Katie for the great intro! I'm writing this on the world's most ornery netbook with an iffy wifi connection from a building where Napoleon slept!! And if you could see the electricity wires dangling, you'd believe it!

Until Katie said so, I hadn't quite realized that I was indeed sort of an ebook pioneer. I loved writing the EC books, I felt so incredibly...free. Imagine that Midnight Man was originally for Harlequin Presents and they would have inevitably rejected it.
Someone asked why i don't have a website, and it's a really good question. The answer is - I will when they make 48 hour days. Though there is a mini website on the Avon site and eventually I'll have one designed. I still have a day job (though on a reduced scale) and generally have a very busy life. but others manage it so i guess so will I.

More later, it's midnight over here--I'm in France. And I apologize for the sticky keyboard.
bonne nuit!! talk to you all tomorrow

You have a good asssortment of books for your Desert Island.

I have tried to draw up the same sort of list a number of times but there are just soo many good books I woyuld probably have to at at least a zero or two to my list.

I think having only five books would probably cause me to have a "conniption" !
