We'll look it over and we (the ladies) will announce new members soon!  We're taking applications until Saturday, December 4 and will announce the winners 12/13-12/15.

The Newbies are Hard at Work

This week the new DIK ladies on the island all got together, via email, and did an old fashioned DIK Round Robin to pick the 6 books that they each would bring with them to the island. They were at a slight disadvantage because the locals already had a huge list of books that were already here and they couldn't bring any book that was already chosen...we need to grow our library, you know.

They slaved away with their lists. There was in-fighting like you wouldn't believe. They all wanted the same books it was a veritable blood bath. Ok, not really. They were civilized and contained and actually I don't think any of them pick the same book as another. It was wonderful...and they got it done in one day! I know, shocking!

Adrien English from Josh Lanyon's Adrien English Mysteries - Someone needs to save him from that *bleep* *bleep* Jake! Plus he owns a bookstore. How cool is that. :)

John Chen from Kylie Chan's Dark Heavens series - He's a rich, sexy, Chinese God... literally. Need I say more.

Dalziel, Royce Varisey, 10th Duke of Wolverstone from Stephanie Lauren's Bastion Club series - He is the Alpha of all Alphas and will keep the rest of 'em in line. *jumping up and down on seat* His book is out in July! *SQUEE* I CAN'T WAIT!!! *ahem*

Sebastian from Anne Bishop's Landscapes of Ephemera books - All he needed was the right woman. *sniffle* He is worthy of the island.

5. What is your favorite movie that is based on a book?
NOT Twilight!!!! Probably my favourite is actually the series (I seem to have a bit of an obsession ;) starring David Suchet and based on Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot. I think they're terrific.

6. Name one fun thing you would bring to the island?
My expert skills at procrastination.

7. Why are you interested in coming to the island?
Because I get to hang out in the sun with my pals Tracy and Jen as well as the rest of you girls, lay back with icy margaritas (just out of interest there are no hangovers on the island, are there?) and talk books whilst checking out the veritable plethora of eye candy all day. Good times.

Oh there are just too many to choose from!! I love the hero's of my books!
Ok first up I think I would have to bring Rhage, there is nothing I don't I love about this male! He is tortured, compassionate and has an inner beast! His story for me remains the most poignant of all the BDB. His story touches me so much, he sacrifices everything for the woman he loves despite what the costs are. Plus I have to say I am a sucker for guys that go for the heroines who may not always fall into the 'shes so gorgeous I want to scratch her eys out' category LOL.
Next it has to be Daegus MacKeltar....... for me he is the bad boy of all bad boys!! He battles with his inner enemies and fiercely protects those he loves. His story and Drustans are my two favourites from KMM in the highlander series. Favourite scene from his story is his towel drop at the top of the stairs...... a man like that deserves to be with me on the island!
I know probably everyone wants to bring Outlanders Jamie Fraser with them....... I'm another one! He was my first romance hero and I come running back to read more and more about him, he is the man of alot of women I know dreams!

5. What is your favorite movie that is based on book?
Oooo thats a toughie, think its going to be Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

6. Name one fun thing you would bring to the island?Think it would have to be my leprechaun suit!! (yes I have one!!) I'm allowed thoug I'm Irish 100% and could I bring my little shih tzu cassie too? She is so much fun!

7. Why are you interested in coming to the island?
I have recently gotten into the blogging world and here is one of my favourite places to stop by and read and sometimes post. I have learned alot here and gained alot of new to me authors that are threatening to take over my house I now have so many books!! Being part of such a fun cool place and getting to hang out with people I can only ever dream of would be amazing!

Only one hero from the above books would I bring and that would be 'Rhage' from JR Ward's "Lover Eternal". He's my favorite vampire because he's the wounded hero with issues who can be vulnerable and dominate at the same time.

The other heroes I'd take are from other books;
Navy SEAL Clint "Iceman" McIntyre ('Dangerous Games" by Lora Leigh) because he's got jewelry in places only a man can have and he knows how to use it! *grin* He's a bit intimidating, rough around the edges but charming in his own way, not to mention extremely fierce, protective and sexy (can't go wrong with that!).

James "Dawg" MacKay ("Nauti Nights" by Lora Leigh)...this guy is HOT. That's all I can say, everything he says and does makes you temperature rise. I'd never get tired of having him on the island with me.

Carkdacund "Cat" Tshevnoe ("Slave" by Cheryl Brooks) - the otherworldly hunk is patient, perceptive, sensual and has a really amazing umm...wonderwand. He'd be a hit ANYWHERE you took him!

Jack Prescott ("Dangerous Games" by Lisa Marie Rice) I love Jack. Jack was homeless and grew up on the streets and in shelters with a drunk father. He never had anything then someone inspired hope in him and hope changed his life. Jack is a hero in all rights and not only do I love this hero, I also admire and respect him. Gotta have Jack on the island.

Can I invite a heroine too? If so, it would be Sookie Stackhouse- character created by Charlaine Harris in the books that inspired HBO's "TrueBlood". I love Sookie, she's an engaging and delightful character that I find utterly charming. I'd love to have her on the island.

5. What is your favorite movie that is based on book?
The Kiera Knightley version of "Pride & Prejudice" or "Gone With the Wind"

6. Name one fun thing you would bring to the island?
Hmm...'fun thing'? Johnny Depp if he's available! I think I'd have lots of fun with him. :o)

7. Why are you interested in coming to the island?
I'm interested in coming to the island because I'm a divorced single parent who needs to retreat to an island with authors, bloggers and other book addicts like myself to escape from the reality of daily life that can feel like the weight of the world on your shoulders some days. Blogging is a wonderful escape from that, and an island blog escape would be that much better! Besides, I'm bringing Johnny Depp!! :o)

4. Which heroes would you bring to the island and why?

‘Eidolon’ from Larissa Ione’s “Pleasure Unbound”: Eidolon, for me epitomizes the “tortured hero”, he is a physician and therefore the creed he lives by is to heal and save others. However, the clock was ticking down to the S’Genesis, a change all “Seminus Demons”, go through at 100 years of age. If they are not mated so their inherent need for sex is satisfied then they go through a metamorphosis and not only change physically but rape without care or real understanding of what they are doing. Eidolon has no mate and knows his days are numbered, his career will be no more and he will be lost to “Underworld General Hospital”, where he is the lynchpin keeping his other half brothers together and the facility itself running. Then he saves Tayla Mancuso, a demon slayer and a woman who he should hate and destroy.

Eidolon is a beautiful, kind and sensitive character, despite the dark urges he fights as a demon, he is willing to give it all up for the one he loves. However, at the end of the day, Tayla and Eidolon save each other. I loved his character.

‘Vic’ from Beth Kery’s “Wicked Burn”: I love eccentric, volatile, strong heroes in a romance novel and for me “Vic”, exemplifies all of those things. While he made mistakes and communicated poorly at times during his early relationship with Niall, he had reason given his personal and relationship history. His sexual dominance of Niall was what she needed to basically revive her. I just loved his creative nature in and out of the bedroom, and his rugged handsomeness.

Nicholai Hel from “Shibumi”: Nicholai Hel was the first male hero I truly feel in love with (I read this book in the 70’s). Shibumi isn’t a romance per se; it is a “super spy thriller”. Hel was born in the ravages of WWI China and raised in the spiritual gardens of a Japanese Go master. He survived the destruction of Hiroshima to emerge as the world’s most artful lover and accomplished, highly paid assassin. Hel’s character is written as a mystic, as well as a master of language and culture. He lives in an isolated mountain fortress with his magnificent Eurasian mistress, “Hanna”. What can I say? Despite Hel’s history and background, he absolutely adores Hanna and she him, who she calls “Nikko”. Even when Hanna loses her sight in a blast, he loves and cares for her.

Rupert Campbell Black from “Riders”: Rupert Campbell Black is written as an “upper class”, British rake that dabbles in horses, investments and women, in that order. The guy is, excuse the pun, but a “stallion”, pretty much has any woman he wants and makes sure they, along with himself are well serviced. Plus he is inordinately rich and brilliant, and lives very well. What I love about this character is his dry rapier wit he cracked me up, not to mention he is drop dead gorgeous. Rupert doesn’t actually fall in love until the second book in the series “Rivals”, but he is one of the main characters and up to no good in “Riders”. I love a rake, and it is equally satisfying when they fall for that special heroine.

Vane Kattalakis from Sherilyn Kenyon’s “Night Play”: This book is probably my favorite of the SLK novels because of Vane. He sees Bride for the beautiful woman that she is and, in fact, loves the fact she isn’t ‘model’ thin. Plus Vane is hot, as in handsome, seductive and devoted to his mate. You gotta love the devotion of those wolf shape changers. ;) Finally, I love motorcycles and he rides one.

5. What is your favorite movie that is based on book?

Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers.

6. Name one fun thing you would bring to the island?

My Blowfish Bikini Top – my Chinese Crested dog “Tori”….. She is high maintenance but fun… ;)

7. Why are you interested in coming to the island?

I think DIK is a fabulous unique blog and I always stop by and read your interesting and fun posts. I’ve been introduced to new to me authors that I have enjoyed through visits to DIK. The way you have set up the author posts is excellent and I think it allows them the flexibility to be creative. The contributions by those of you who are island members are equally fun and always interesting. Being a relatively new Blogger, I am learning every day and have come to admire the diversity at DIK, you seem to make room for everyone’s input and style. Plus there is obviously a deep-seated love of literature in all its forms among DIK members.

If accepted as a member I think I would bring a love of literature and blogging to the island. I would hope to make a meaningful contribution to the best of my ability. In addition, I love the beach and make a mean Shirley Temple… ;)

a) Victor Bayne from the Psycop books by JCP. He is a class 5 medium who can see ghosts and exorcise him. He would be a useful asset for helping us when we need to go to the old Indian burial ground.
b) Matthew Hawkwood from the Hawkwood books by James McGee. He's a bow street runner who knows exactly what to do in times of crisis, so would be handy to have around to break up fights between the men and sort out any disputes. He's crack shot with a rifle as well so would be good if the island ever comes under attack.
c) James Bond from the books by Ian Fleming. Had a big crush on him for years. He's cool, suave and knows how to gamble money from others. Will be handy when I get low on funds and I can send him out to win money off the the regency fops in the other cabanas.
d) Wulfric Bedwyn (I'm not sure whether he's been taken already or not). He has a stern, aloof exterior but underneath he's a big softy. Will be able to educate all the others in my cabana on the right way to behave in public and any other rules of etiquette - especially Vic, who's a bit of a slob.
e) Wild Bill from the Channeling Morpheus/Sweet Obsession books by JCP. He's a vampire who was turned in the 80's who has a strong sense of right and wrong even if his morals are a little ambivalent. He's also Bisexual so good for me AND Vic - I don't mind sharing.
5. What is your favourite movie that is based on book?
Don't have a favourite movie, but I love the BBC classic adaptations especially P & P with Colin Firth and Persuasion with Rupert Penry-Jones.

6. Name one fun thing you would bring to the island?

What, you mean other than sun, fun and surf? Great company, sexy men and all the cocktails I can manage brought to me by my own personal harem!

Derek Craven (Dreaming of You)- I love how he’s a “take me or leave me” guy. He’s out there with his past and isn’t embarrassed by it. And, the intensity with which he loves Sara just makes me melt.
Sebastian St Vincent (The Devil in Winter)- The best reformed rake, ever! He comes to love shy Evie, and appreciate her quiet strength. He starts caring for her even before he realizes it. And when he does realize he wants her, whoa, baby!
Hawke (Psy-Changeling series)- Because he makes me laugh. He steals every scene he’s in, in the series. I love how he calls Sascha, “Sascha, darling” just to piss off Lucas. But, he’s also totally an alpha hero. Alpha heroes with a sense of humor are really rare.
Curran (Kate Daniels series)- How could I not want the King of the Beasts with me? He’s not just “sex on a stick” but he’s the best at witty, flirty dialogue.
Ranger (Stephanie Plum series)-All I have to hear is, “Oh, babe.” and I know it’s Ranger. He may be living in Jersey, but I know that he has all the survival skills that will keep me safe on the island.

5. What is your favorite movie that is based on book?
Any of the movie or mini-series productions of Pride and Prejudice.

6. Name one fun thing you would bring to the island?
My dog, Clifford. He’s a 100lb black lab, and I would love to see my heroes hanging out on the beach with him: playing frisbee, wrestling, frolicking in the waves . . .
Um, where was I? Oh yeah, the dog. Wouldn’t it be great to see Curran, King of the Beasts playing fetch with my dog? Or, Hawke running as a wolf with him?

7. Why are you interested in coming to the island?
Mostly, because it’s been such a fun place to visit over the last year! The inventiveness of the posts as well as the great authors who have visited make the island a place I want to be. I love the combination of information and fun. No one is taking themselves too seriously or setting the site up as THE VOICE of romance readers. It’s people coming together to celebrate their love of reading with other like minded people. And, have a great time while they’re at it. That being said, the level of information is really great, too. I’ve found a number of new blogs/authors/books to read because of the island.
Also, I feel like I can contribute to the island in a positive way. I had a blast doing my guest post a couple of months ago! I sort of get on my routine over at my own place, and the opportunity to do something else, given the different atmosphere at the island excites me.
