MK Picks the Pockets of her Fellow Cast-Aways

One of the things I did when I wrote yesterday's blog was go through the heroes that everyone else picked and, well, figure out who I'd like to steal. Some of you might end up a hero or two short in your huts, if I had my way.

So, without further ado, here's my list of who I'd steal:

First a foremost, I'd be surprised if Shannon didn't hear the hissyfit I threw in DC when she picked Adam Hauptman from Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series. He was next on my list when Shannon picked him. I've noticed that I am strongly drawn to heroes who have a lot of responsibility, and Adam, like Lucas and Hawke in my hut is an alpha. Not only that, but he takes in a lot of refugees from other packs. He's a father, a leader and shows impressive patience in waiting for Mercy to finally come around to realize that she's his mate. I LOVES him.

And while Shannon is looking at the shiny things that I'm going to hand her in order to steal her men, I'm going to take Stan Wolchonock. I love Stan because he's NOT a good looking guy. Oh sure, he won't scare small children, but that's not what draws us to him. He's generally a sweet tempered guy, who has had a thing for Teri, his heroine, for a long time. He's honorable and decent and a hero (not just the hero of the book, but you know, and ACTUAL hero.) With apologies to Sam Starrett, he's my favorite Brockmann hero.

I actually gasped when Sam Kane picked Doyle, The Queen's Darkness. The minute she chose him, I was all, "Damn, I wish I'd thought of that!" I'm not a huge fan of LKH's Anita Blake series, but I still zoom out to buy the Merry series and almost all of that has to do with Doyle. I love him.

I discovered over this year that Sula and I are of the same mind about our heroes. She totally gets my obsession with Rhage and respects it. She might respect it a little less once I pick him out of her pocket. But hey, she understands the draw. What I love best about Rhage is that he is brought to his knees by his woman. He's a caregiver and has a generally sweet nature. Sure, he can be deadly, but I love how he loves his woman. Plus, he has the magical tatt, and he makes with the dirty talk. Both totally work for me.

Sula also has Keir of the Cat in her hut. I chose Warprize as one of my books to bring to the island, and it's pretty much solely because of Keir. His need for peace, his love of Lara, his leadership against great adversity. Plus, he looks good in leather.

Tracy picked Caine Allen from Sarah McCarty's Caine's Reckoning. I arrived very late to the Sarah McCarty party (hey, that rhymes!). So I have no complaints about Tracy picking him. I'd just like to borrow him for a night. He's so dominant and leaning just slightly towards rough that I love him. Plus, he's a cowboy. Can't underestimate that.

Sarai chose Gage Travis from Lisa Kleypas' Sugar Daddy. I've always adored Lisa's heroes. And Gage is one of my favorites, mostly because he is constantly surprising Liberty, his heroine, with his actions. Sure, he's the quintessential southern man, but he's also quite evolved. Plus, he's got a dominant personality, but truly respects women. What a guy!

My last pickpocket is probably the biggest. Due to this fantastic exercise, I read and truly fell in love with Anne Bishop's brilliant Black Jewel Trilogy. It's been ages since I've read a fantasy book so darkly textured with interesting characters, an epic battle of good and evil and more than that a captivating hero. Daemon Sadi remains my favorite hero of this year. What's not to love about him? He loves his woman utterly, and due to that love has to slightly subjugate his dominance due to her incredible power. While I don't begrudge Tracy Daemon in her hut, I am DAMN jealous of it!

So there you have it. There were many other awesome heroes on the island, but these were the ones who jumped out at him.

MK's Desert Island Keepers & Heroes

Hey Everyone! I decided I'm doing my books and heroes all in one day. Sure it makes for a longer post, but then it enables me to get to...other stuff.

Also, thank you Lisabea for the piccy of Mr. Hotty McTattypants. I might have actually drooled on my keyboard when you featured him on your blog. He's just...wow.

As a reminder, here are my additions to the already excellent DIK Library:

The Windflower by Tom and Sharon Curtis. Why? It's my all time favorite romance, without a doubt. Reasons for that are listed here.

A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught. Why? It's a superb example of a medieval and also of old school deliciousness. The hero is alpha, the heroine is sassy and cast of secondaries is delightful. Plus it features an ending that makes me heave a big sigh every single time.

Sea Swept by Nora Roberts. Why? I could read this book over and over again. It features all of the things that Nora does best, write families, write alpha males, write guy speak, write hot sex that isn't explicit, and leave you panting for more.

Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan. Why? I've read this book probably 30 times, and each time I find something new that I love about it. But mostly, it's the simple love story, not just between the hero and the heroine, but between the heroine and her native people, and the people she comes to belong to. It's a spectacularly well written, well imagined book.

Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh. Book Two in the Psy/Changeling series is just as much fun, and Vaughn, the hero is all dark and broody and alpha. But his heroine, Faith, is even stronger. This book proves that Nalini was no one hit wonder!

Mary Balogh's Slightly Dangerous. Why? Because the hero, Wulfric Bedwyn is one of the most complicated, fascinating, deeply subdued men I've ever read. And watching him thaw into this wonderful, warm man is among the best times I've ever had reading a book. And it remains so every time.

And now, for the more important entires, my heroes:


Roarke (In Death series, JD Robb) - Much to Katie(babs)'s dismay, I picked before her, and I picked up the man who I think is the best hero in the pantheon of heroes. In Roarke, we find every woman's dream: a man with fallen angel looks, an Irish accent, gads of money, a caretaker, but someone who is alpha enough to kick anyone's ass. He is my favorite hero of all time.

Lucas Hunter (Slave to Sensation, Nalini Singh) - I chose Lucas because he is the hero who most stays with me, and whose book I go back to over and over again. He's dominant and domineering, alpha and tender, obsessed with his woman, and a man who wears a great mantle of power. What's not to love about that? Plus, he sports the tatt. And we all know how I love the tatts.

Maximillian Pesaro (Gardella Chronicles, Colleen Gleason) - I love me a reluctant hero, and Max is exactly that. He's a good man, who is cranky and difficult. He delights in needling the heroine, but he's reliable and trustworthy and a hero at his core -- even if he's pissed off about it.

Cameron Quinn (Sea Swept, Nora Roberts) - One of my favorite bad boys, I love me some Cameron Quinn. He's quick tempered and difficult. He speaks Italian, dates super models and races boats. And when push comes to shove, he gives it all up for loyalty to his family and finds that home, even through struggles, is where his heart is. I adore him.

Jacob Green (Vampire Queen's Servant series, Joey W. Hill) - Mmmkay, well. I'll be honest, I chose Jacob because he's damned handy. Sure, he's tremendous in bed and is willing to try most anything, which is key, but he also gives a killer pedicure and can whip up a meal or fruity drink. I'm nothing if not practical, handy and good in bed? I'm sold.

Captain Jack Seward (All Through The Night, Connie Brockway) - Ah, Captain Jack -- the original. I love him. He's dark and suspicious, he's bowled over by a thief who ties him to a chair in my all time favorite non-sex sex scene. I love this man. Or, maybe I just love Connie Brockway's writing. Either way, he stole my heart.

Hawke (Psy/Changeling series, Nalini Singh) - I don't think there is a hero in Romancelandia whose HEA I want more. Every time Nalini gives us a glimpse of Hawke, I'm mesmerized. He's powerful, and has a tragic past. He might be even more alpha than Lucas, and whooo-damn do I love him.
