About Me - Carrie Lofty

sula: I can't recall exactly how I "met" Carrie Lofty, but I think it had something to do with Richard Armitage, North and South, and blogging. In the course of a few email conversations, we found out that we shared another mutual love, that of all things U2. She led me down the path of Doctor Who fandom and fed my growing addiction for the Doctor and Rose. And when we had the chance to meet up in real life at RWA San Fran, it felt like we'd been buddies for ages. I'm very pleased to host Carrie today, not only because she's clever and funny and has great taste in books and men but also because this week sees the debut of her print novel What a Scoundrel Wants! (I'm halfway through my review copy and I'll tell you right now, it's verra good. You'll want this one.) So without further ado, let's get started and get to know Carrie Lofty...

Favorite Reading Position
In bed, all cozied in with a cuppa tea, chocolate of some kind, and nowhere to be for the rest of the night.

Best love song
"With or Without You" by U2. It's moody, obsessive, turbulent, and sexy. Powerful stuff, even after 20 years.

Favorite Heroine
Ellen Ripley. I saw Aliens when I was about 12 years old, and she was the perfect heroine for a girl coming into puberty: strong, resourceful, unapologetic, and fierce. I think her maternal side appealed to me as well, not that I wanted to be a mother at that age, but that she'd protect me--you know? I wanted to be that person others could depend on...and I had a crush on Michael Biehn who played Hicks.

Author everyone loves but you don’t
I don't read fast enough to develop dislikes!

If you could be in one book/series/world which would you pick?
X-Men, but then I'd have to have powers too. Can I be Jean? I love Jean.

How old is your inside voice?
Probably about 22, without kids. Time to head to the clubs and dance!

Favorite sex song
"Chocolate" by Kylie Minogue

If you could be a hero who would you be
BE one? Not DO one? This hurts my head. OK...I'd be the deliciously vacant yet shrewd Rupert Carsington from Loretta Chase's Mr. Impossible. How awesome would it be to flit through life, giving off the impression of utter idiocy and then taking everyone by surprise with bouts of awesomeness?

What heroine is most like you
I'm going for an oldie here: Carla McQueen from Fire & Rain by Elizabeth Lowell. She's young (roughly the age of my inner voice), straight-forward, practical, inquisitive, and never takes no for an answer--especially not from the man she loves. I think because she's a contemporary heroine, and one I read at an early age, she's resonated with me through the years as a very realistic, relatable character.

What heroine would you like to be
Rose from Doctor Who. She's not the brainiest girl in the universe, but she's strong, clever, loyal, unfailingly optimistic, easy-going, and up for anything. And, of course, she winds up with David Tennant. Oh, swoon.

Boxers, Briefs, boxer briefs, kilt (I say we add commando)
Boxer briefs--not that they need to stay on for long.

Favorite book set on a tropical island
Uh... The only one I can remotely think of is The Charm School by Susan Wiggs, but I think that's actually Brazil. Any suggestions, ladies?

What hero is most like your significant other
Hugh Grant's Charles from Four Weddings and a Funeral. It's all about the accent, the eyelashes, and the wicked sarcasm.

What hero would you like to be your significant other
I'll go for the dramatization of a real-life hero: Damian Lewis's portrayal of Maj. Richard Winters from Band of Brothers. The man just defines hero. Here's a clip he narrates before stripping down and going for a swim. (click here) (Keven says: "Oh, sure, something I can't even begin to aspire to! The closest I could get is dying my hair red.")

If you were stuck on a desert island what 3 things would you bring
Sunscreen, my TRB pile, and chocolate. I could survive on that until help arrived.

Favorite drink to bring to the DIK party
I'm not difficult. Just give me gin & tonics until I fall down. Or better yet, don't!

Everyone, let's give Carrie a warm welcome to the island! Happy Monday!

p.s. edited to add...I'm running a little contest at my blog with a copy of WASW as the prize. Once you've gotten to know Carrie here, go enter to win!

I was so hooked on Band of Brothers and I love Damien in everything he does!

Right now I am on a major peppermint tea kick. Yum!

woot! Damien rocks the red hair. And I loved to hate him in The Forsyte Saga. le sigh.

With or Without You by U2 is MY favorite song too!!! soooo luscious. It gets me every time. In fact, it was the song that got me into their music. Classic. Never gets old.

I blame Carrie entirely for my DrWho obsession. *stares at David Tennant*

Hey there lady! ::waves::

Welcome to our little island. I'm so excited for you. I need to stop at the book store tomorrow :) Gotta find out what happens after the bit your read for us a few weeks ago.

Oh, I think your fav reading position may be heaven. Seriously! Tea and chocolate with books? That is perfection!

(BTW, I am SOOOOO disappointed with Canada right now. That country and I are no longer on speaking terms. I need to go and buy season four soon. I need me some Will and Josh and Twitch and Mark and...)

Welcome Carrie - sorry I'm late! :)

I have to say your new book looks great - can't wait to read it.

I actually drank gin and tonics once until I fell down - I don't drink gin and tonics any more. lol
