Thanks so much for inviting me to drop by. It's chilly/slushy/snowy in my neck of the woods at the moment, so a visit to a tropical climate is much appreciated!
As is the view.
(What? He's totally an island boy.)
My name's Kate Davies, and my new release, Take A Chance On Me, is out this week from Samhain. I have a feeling my heroine, Jessica, could use a break right about now, too. See, she's just started her first teaching position, as a long-term substitute, and everything's pretty much going to hell.
The kids won't listen. The paperwork is insane. She's discovered that directing the school play is part of her responsibilities, which doesn't thrill her. And Tom, the school security officer, is messing with her head, showing up on a regular basis in her thoughts, her daydreams... her fantasies...
(Of course, if he insists on walking around looking like this, who's going to blame her?)
She knows that falling for a co-worker isn't the best idea she's ever had, but then neither was choosing Shakespeare for the first play she'll ever direct. So a time-out, especially when it holds the promise of suntan lotion and a drink with an umbrella in it, would be very much welcome.
Sadly for Jessica, there won't be any island-hopping anytime soon. Hard to get a permanent teaching contract if you drop everything for an unplanned vacation. On the other hand, Tom's hanging around, making everything at work just a little more interesting.
Hmmm... maybe there are some benefits to sticking close to home as well.
So I'll let Tom and Jessica sort things out at school while I get a refill on my margarita and watch the surfers do their thing. Won't you join me?
What's your take on co-workers dating? Yes, no, maybe? Would you take a chance on a relationship with someone you met on the job? Post a comment and be entered to win a copy of Take A Chance On Me!

Hey Kate!
I personally wouldn't date a co-worker, unless I didn't see them everyday or didn't work with them directly. If things end badly, the work situation maybe really uncomfortable.
But I do have a thing for co-workers falling love books. :)
I think it depends on they type of work environment the co-workers have. I have never dated a co-worker but I can't say that I never would. Most people spend the majority of their time around co-workers. It would make sense to date within that pool of people.

I dated someone I worked with and I'll never do it again! tWarner419@aol.com
I don't think I would ever date a co-worker. The work atmosphere would be really weird if it wouldn't work.
But I so don't mind reading about it! The story sounds great!
I don't see how something like that can work out well. If the couple split on really bad terms, they couldn't continue to work together. Not only would things be tense between the two of them but it could spill over to the rest of the workplace. That's why so many places have rules against it. I think it would depend on how the couple involved would handle a split. But how can you know that until it happens.
Congrats on the new release, Kate. I've never dated a coworker, but never say never. I know the situation could become unbearable if you breakup and have to see that person almost every day.

Only if I could act out a boss/secretary thing. Merow.
Dang it. I thought I was signed on as LB!
Oops.
I met my hubby when we both worked for the same company a million years ago, lol. What helped is that we worked for different areas, and never really bumped into each other at all, except for our lunch dates.
Congrats on your new release, Kate, the excerpt had me laughing.

I think it is a bad, very bad idea to date someone you work with, too many complications, and too many people who would be in your business. Thanks for the contest, I definately want this book and have it on my wish list. lisagk at yahoo dot com
Thanks for the comments, guys! I used to be solidly anti-workplace-romance, too, until I met my now husband. I fought it for a long time, for all the reasons you've mentioned, but we finally started dating near the end of April. Then I went back to school in mid-June, partly because it would take away the potential pitfalls of dating someone I worked with.
We've been married 16 years now.
And despite the landmines inherent in finding love on the job, I do love books with office romances in them! (Probably why I found myself writing this one!)
Thanks again to the DIK team for making space for me today. I appreciate it!
I have dated a co-worker in the past and after we broke up it was damned awkward to work with him! lol I'd have to say that it depends on the work place, the situation and how strong the feelings are that you have toward the person. Completely situational. :)
Thanks for stopping by today!
