Day 2 of Michele Lang's island adventures

Michele has joined us again to share with us her six books she would take on a deserted island.

Six Books on a Deserted Island…. (I cheat a little bit ;) )

Only six? Yargh. Well, here goes…

Watership Down

This is one of my faves of all time. I first read it when I was about twelve, and must have read it fifty bajillion times since then. A great adventure with an awesome setting.

The Stand

Another big book, with a huge cast, epic scope, and tons of energy. Stephen King is one of my favorite authors, and this is one of his best books.

Winds of War

Do you see a pattern? ;) Yet another big, sweeping story, with love, war, life and death all woven together.

His Majesty’s Dragon

Historical Fantasy at its best! J A magnificent series that keeps getting better…

Any/all Shomi books

Does Amazon deliver to the island? These books are all so different, but they are edgy, hot, and compelling. Every single Shomi book I’ve read so far has been terrific, and I’m not just saying that!

My hero: Kovner on my mind

My agent, Lucienne Diver, is having a paranormal romance week on her blog starting November 17th, and I’m contributing a short story set in the NETHERWOOD universe. I’m happy to revisit that world, and especially the hero, Lt. Robert Kovner.

I have something of an obsession for Kovner. And I’m not sure why.

It’s more than his appearance, though he is always easy on the eyes. I think it’s because Kovner is crazy brave…he has to be, to fight his battles.

To give you some background, The Netherwood is a shady place in the world of the Internet of the 22nd century. In Kovner’s time, the Internet is controlled by huge corporations that have outlawed forbidden knowledge. But the truth is out there…and hackers like Kovner live to hunt the truth and set it free.

Kovner roams the Netherwood in his avatar form. In the “real world” Kovner looks like this:
(Okay Michele's picture was friggin awesome but b/c I suck and just now realized that I can't figure out how to transfer the picture from word to here I am going to give you my version of what Kovner looks like sans leather b/c leather ROCKS!) And keep in mind while mine is hawt her pics was so much hawter. (If I can figure out how in the world to save it he will be our DIK guy of the week.)

His avatar, the Avenger, looks like this:

I did however, manage to find what his avatar would look (not an easy task mind you! Whew)

A veteran of the Glass Desert war, Kovner served his country faithfully and now is a corporate citizen of one of the huge WorldCorporations that have taken over Earth. But he also lives a secret life. In cyberspace, his avatar is known as the Avenger. And his bad neighborhood is called Netherwood.

He is dangerous and fascinating, both on the surface and in warrior avatar. He’s dangerous because of what he had to become to survive the Glass Desert war, and fascinating because despite his hard nature, he has a passionate and gentle core.

What I love most about Kovner is his willingness to give up his place in society to do what he believes is right. He’s the ultimate outlaw, ready to disappear into an offworld wilderness to save the woman he loves and live true to his inner vision.

What do you look for in a hero? I love a passionate man with the courage of his convictions, who stands up for doing the right thing even if most of the world thinks he is wrong.

Though all of the above is admirable, I still don’t know why I’m obsessed with Kovner! I think I know what my story is going to be about….why and how somebody so honorable makes me think such wicked things about him ;)

Honour is so important in a hero - and very underrated these days.

Love 'The Stand'. The whole sweep of the novel is breathtaking.

Very nice list of books. I think Amazon SHOULD deliver there...but I don't think they do. Hey, between the regulars and the authors I think we'll have more than enough books to go around! lol
