kris' confessions: reading taboo #3

So, it's time for my last confession and it's a biggie.

You ready??

Kris' Reading Taboo #3

My name is Kris and I read on the toilet.

Yeah, and who says that guys are the only ones allowed to do it??

Why is it such a friggin' taboo subject when it comes to girls?!

I say women readers of the world should unite by sitting down and taking back the toilet!

I mean seriously think about it for a sec...

Who is it exactly who sits down on the toilet the most??

See.

Case closed.

OK, this may be a bit TMI, but I don't spend long enough on the toilet to actually need something, like a book, to pass the time. So, no, I don't read on the toilet.

You obviously do, so what does that say about you? :P.

Sayuri said...

I read on the loo. *highfive*

I think it's the hidden girl secret. It's not that all women are lesbians but that all women are loo-readers!

Kris said...

Jen: Are you casting aspersions upon my tummy? That's a bit personal, don't you think? *hmpf*

Sayuri, yay! *high five back* I think it's a hidden girl secret too, but I also think we should start talking about it more though so it seems like less of a taboo topic. After all, why should boys get all the fun. *g*

I'll read pretty much anywhere, and that includes the toilet. In fact I have, in the midst of a really great book, wondered if there was someway I could bring it into the shower with me. (Glad Wrap? Ziploc bags? How I'd turn the pages escaped me.)

Then, I came across something called a 'tub book' if I recall correctly. A book with waterproof pages. Sadly, it was filled with erotica. I read erotica & write it, but is there some assumption that if we're reading in the tub it's to... well... get so excited we'll drop our book in the water?

Hmmm... off point a little. So, yeah, I'll read on the toilet, including graffiti in public bathrooms.

I have attempted this to disastrous affect, which was not limited to the fact that I was so frustrated by how much time it was taking me to turn the pages when I was at a REALLY good bit that I may have thrown the book... just a little.

"So, yeah, I'll read on the toilet, including graffiti in public bathrooms."

Graffiti is the best part of going to a public bathroom, imo. I've learnt some of my best jokes in a dunny. :)

MsM: "TMI!! TMI!! TMI!!!"

What?! *bats eyelashes innocently*

Hahaha! I'll never tell *winks* BUT it is something I try not to think about (but can't seem to stop myself) if I'm reading a library book or someting I picked up at my local used book store.... *eeewwww!* :)

Donna said...

My girlfriend once remarked that we have more variety of reading materials in the bathrooms at our house than the library at her small college did. My husband and I don't have his and hers towels or robes or pillowcases, but there are certainly his and hers book stacks in the bathroom. And, by the way, my stack is bigger!

Kati said...

Reading on the potty is why I subscribe to Vanity Fair magazine. It's perfect bathroom reading. And look at all the pretty pictures. ;o)

Chris said...

Nope. If I have to be in there for a bit, I play Mahjohnng on my PDA instead.

Lily said...

LOL, I have a little table set up with magazines although I usually take my eReader in with me. It's a great place to escape to for a bit of quiet reading if the house is full of people getting in my reading way.

Cecile Smutty Hussy said...

No... can not confess to this one... Not sure why it is taboo though....

Kris said...

Patti: "... if I'm reading a library book or someting I picked up at my local used book store.... *eeewwww!*"

LOL! Yes, I can see that it might not be the best thing to think about in those circumstances. Kinda like the pages of a pron mag sticking together. ;)

Donna: During my first read I though you said your 'rack' was bigger and I was all 'I hope so!' *g*

When I go to my girlfriend's house I always end up ranting about the lack of reading material in the loo. It's always World of Warcraft mags. I keep telling her she needs more variety for her guests. :)

Kati: With me it's usually home decorating mags. Sitting on the toilet always gives me such a unique perspective for planning my dream bathroom. LOL.

Kris said...

Chris, hun, you're a tech geek. Nuff said.

Lily: Oooh, you have a table. Good idea. My basin is right next to my loo, which means I have to be extra careful washing my hands not to get my book waterlogged because that would be gross. ;)

Cecile: I think it's taboo cos it's always something that boys are known for doing and not girls. Seems odd when there obviously seems to be a number of us doing it anyways.

Tam said...

Sigh. I can't share this one with you. Like Jen, I'm just not there long enough. And if I'm going to be there a long time I'm probably not in a reading mood. I'm in, I'm out. Next. Not that we have a big line, 3 toilets, 2 people, we can always find an empty one.

Sullivan McPig said...

I only read magazines on the toilet. I just can't get into a good story on the loo, I'm probably too busy with my other business there :-p

wren boudreau said...

We keep crossword puzzle books in our bathrooms. My husband and I each have our own, as one of us is a little more crossword-advanced than the other.

In the past, we've had magazines as well as "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader" in various iterations.s

Jessica said...

What happends when you get there and forgot your book? Printed toilet paper???

Tracy said...

I'm with Jenre and Tam on this - I just don't stay in there long enough to need reading materials.

Is that you in the picture? I certainly hope not since that woman's face is beat to shit.

s7anna said...

Kris,
You had to go there didn't you? lol

I must confess that I am a reader wherever I go...that's including the toilet. (no pun intended) lol

nichem said...

I'm with Jen, Tam, and Tracy-- not in there long enough.

Estella said...

No! No! No!
I am in and do my business and out.

Smokinhotbooks said...

Yeah I do it. I read on the porcelain throne. Even better with Mrs. Easy Peasey my kindle.

Ingrid said...

My couch is much more comfy then my toilet thank you very much!

Kris said...

Tam: At least, you and Jen won't hog the loo when we go to San Francisco. LOL.

Sullivan: I'm mainly a magazine reader too; however, when I'm in the middle of a really good book nothing is stopping me from reading it all the way through, not even having to go to the toilet. :)

Wren: I gave my baby brother a set of 'Where's Wallys' for his birthday in February. He says that it's the best toilet reading he's found to date. LOL.

Renee said...

Yeah, I do. OK, more tmi:

When I gamed a lot, I was known to bring the laptop with me.

Hey! I couldn't exactly duck out of a group task just because nature called!

Kris said...

Jessica: I've been known to read the little instruction sheet from a tampon packet in desperation. Have you ever read one of those? *shudders* Trust me. It will scare the shit out of you. *Literally.*

Tracy: Excellent since you are coming to San Francisco too. That leaves more time for me and Chris. ;)

Nope, not me in the picture. Strangely, I would have a pair of knickers around my ankles if that was me. I prefer not to parade around semi naked after I've done my business.

Anna: "You had to go there didn't you? lol"

Yes. How could I not and, hey, you're the one with the pun not me. LOL.

What do you think of my new badge: 'A real reader does it anywhere.' It will have a pic of a girl on the toilet reading in the background.

Kris said...

Richelle: You of all people, Richelle, know that you need to slow down and not rush about. Smell the ros- erm... okay, maybe that was the wrong metaphor to use, but you get where I'm going with this, right.

Estella: You're missing out. Just sayin'. ;)

KC: Ok, I just got this image in my head of you being asked what you'd done for the day and it was 'I woke Mrs EP up and we had coffee and breakfast together, then we went to the toilet...' You should do a diary entry for Mrs EP for your blog. That would be funny. :)

Kris said...

Ingrid: Couches usually are, but when you're in the middle of the good part of a story and need to pee madly, well, obviously the book comes with you. Just think of what a compliment that would be the author: 'I couldn't put it down so I even took it into the loo with me!' :)

Renee: "Hey! I couldn't exactly duck out of a group task just because nature called!'

Absolutely! Although I hope you weren't one of those people who then tells everyone that they were on the toilet. LOL.

s7anna said...

"What do you think of my new badge: 'A real reader does it anywhere.' It will have a pic of a girl on the toilet reading in the background."

lol...that'd definitely be a good one!

Kris said...

Anna, I thinking about tshirts too... and maybe undies. ;)

s7anna said...

Dudette...I'll totally buy those undies! *grinning like a mad woman*

Kris said...

Cool. The little picture will be on the front and the writing across the bum. Packs of five in all different colours. I'll put you down for an order, Anna. :)

Dana said...

I didn't realize this was taboo. I read on the toilet too. I'm am so tired of being weird and not knowing it. Dang.

Kris said...

Dana: "I'm am so tired of being weird and not knowing it. Dang."

Sorry. On the bright side, there are lots of us who are proudly weird here so you'll fit right in. :)

Sean Kennedy said...

Ewwwwww! You're definitely not borrowing any of my books!

Ingrid said...

Even so I think I will pass Kris. I rather hurry back to my book

Kris said...

Sean, you keep saying that like there's any friggin' chance in hell that I'd even get to look at them in the first place!

Ingrid: Well, if you're sure....

Sweet Vernal Zephyr said...

O M G... I listen to audio books on my ipod while I do my hair. Hey, blowdrying and straightening takes a long time...

Donna - We have a very nice assortment of reading material, including a bookshelf within reaching distance!

Chris & Lily- Thank God you mentioned the electronics... I have maybe once or twice brought my laptop in.. 'cause I don't have an ereader yet...

Kris said...

Mirand, I salute you, hun. You're like the Reading-Wherever-&-Whenever-You-Want Queen. Go you. :)

Sweet Vernal Zephyr said...

BTW - I'm Miranda ;)... and I think I like it when you call me Queen!

Anonymous said...

Yes and it drives my family mad, its the escape for a bit of peace plus I love multi tasking:)

Kris said...

Miranda, humble apologies for my crappy typing skills... and it was only Queen for the day. You're done. ;)

everafteraddicts: "plus I love multi tasking:)"

LOL! Good one. I'm so using that. :)

You are the second person to say that you escape to read on the loo to get some reading peace. I think if that was me in those circumstance that I would be in there all the time... as well as demanding an extra comfy seat. ;)

Lea said...

I'm very late to this party, but hey, we are only here as short time so if reading while you sit on the throne makes you happy Kris then I say GFI.

You are too funny..

Kris said...

Lea, thanks... I think. ;)

BTW, my new excuse is 'but Lea said I could'. I think it will work out really well in my world since most people will be scratching their heads trying to work out who Lea is. LOL.

Lea said...

LOL Kris:

I think it will work out really well in my world since most people will be scratching their heads trying to work out who Lea is.

You are quite correct about that - even my significant other scratches he head and responds: "Lea? Who is Lea? Never heard of her..."

LOL
You have a good weekend.

Kris said...

So it works for you too then, Lea. LOL.

You have a great weekend too. :)

ElaineG said...

OMG! I am laughing SO hard right now! My son just asked me this morning: "mom, YOU read in the bathroom too?"...he caught me this morning...how shall I put it? Enjoying a quiet moment to myself lol!

Kris said...

Elaine: LMAO! That's too funny, especially the fact that you were caught out by your son and he was so shocked. Great story!
