Oh dear oh dear oh dear

I'm afraid no-one got the answer to the puzzle right.

The last rule of Tumperkin's cabana is: Everyone Must Speak The Queen's English.

Every sentence contained a word which has alternative British/American spellings.

Ah well. The mystery prize remains unclaimed. So I'll make it easy. I'll award it to the person who can come up with the most quintessentially British phrase about the weather in 7 words or less.

And tomorrow - a proper post.

Lol, I never would have guessed that! Hmm, British phrases about the weather? No clue but I'm interested to see what people come up with ;)

Being a fellow Brit, you would think this would be easy for me wouldn't you? But, actually, every single conversation in Britain begins with a comment on the weather - for example, today is warm but cloudy, so the conversation would go:

1: Warm today isn't it?
2: Yes, but look at those clouds!
1: They do look a bit dark.
2: Is it going to rain do you think?
1: possibly
2: I hope not, I've got washing on the line.

So you see, I can't narrow it down to one particular phrase because the possibilities are endless :).

Overheard in Tumperkin's cabana, and the first line constitutes my entry:

Bowen: I say, poppet, it's perfectly frightful out!

Tumperkin: Well come sit on my lap and I'll give you a tuppence.

Bowen: I say, you ARE a saucy wench! We haven't even finished our cucumber sandwiches.

Tumperkin: Oh, poo. Very well then.
*a second later* I say, Bowen, look what's become of my crumpet. Do you fancy you could help me retrieve it?

Bowen: You are barking mad, my good woman!

Tumperkin: No, you are barking mad!

Bowen: No, YOU are barking mad!

Tumperkin: No, you are!

[kissing sounds]

Bowen: You are barking mad!

Tumperkin: No, YOU are!

[unrecognisable sounds]

Oh, and just so you know, I took the last letter of every one of your queen-spelled words and fed them into an anagram program.

Carolyn Crane said...

Yesterday, that is. Not today.

Cj - you are crazy! lmao!!

Tump - you are the puzzle queen!

I have no idea about the weather sentence but at the end it should say T'ra! :)

Jenre said...

You've been watching too much Cilla Black again, haven't you Tracy? Only people from Liverpool say t'ra. *sigh*

Joanna Chambers said...

Oh these are fab!!!!! I will pick a winner tomorrow morning.

CJ, CJ, CJ. You've been listening at doors again, haven't you? Tsk tsk. I love 'queen-spelled'. It's almost as good as 'sqiriferous'.

Joanna Chambers said...

I mean 'squiriferous'

Tracy, Jenre is right. 'Cheerio' is a better bet.

Rain rain go away, come again another day...because it's PISSING down here.

That's NEW England.

Bridget Locke said...

Hmm...I'm not British, so I'd suck, but I have to say CJ was brilliant. :D

Let's see...

"Rain? What's this you say?"

LOL! My friend's dad's from England and he'd say that to me every day. LOL! I live in Oregon and it rains a lot, but he'd say it like I was joking. *rolls eyes* In a very droll, very British accent. he-he

You Brits crack me up. :D

Since I have zero creativity - I googled!!!

What's more English than Jane Austen? Here's the second half of a qoute by her...

*I see more distinctly through the rain.*
