Unforgettable Scenes

LesleyW standing in for Kristie J. :( Get well wishes winging their way to you Kristie, I hope that you're feeling better soon.

I've been thinking a little bit recently about unforgettable scenes. A good movie example is the waterfall scene in Last of the Mohicans. Hawkeye telling Cora - 'Stay alive! I WILL find you.' Just writing that sends chills up my spine. To be honest, the rest of the movie was a bit MEH for me. I'm not a huge Daniel Day Lewis fan, or a fan of historical movies. But it's worth watching just for that scene. It has to rank as one of the top five most romantic moments in movie history. (Well one of mine anyway).

The good thing about movies is that they're visual. (Duh!) If you can remember a scene, you can generally remember the actors, which means you can look it up on imdb.com when you've forgotten which movie a particular scene came from.

Unfortunately you can't do the same with books. You have to cross your fingers and hope that when your memory is fallible someone else who's read the same book will be able to remind you of the title.

I have a scene from a book - kind of erotic - hmmm I wonder why this particular scene got stuck in my head? The hero and heroine have been served oysters. The heroine isn't keen but the hero persuades her to give them a try, and when she swallows one he licks up her throat in the opposite direction. To be honest it's got to the point where I'm not sure if I dreamed this - lol, if only more of my dreams were like that. The rest of the book is a complete blank to me, but this one scene sticks in my head.

Of course there are standout scenes from unforgettable books. One of my favourite scenes from a recent book is Curran's discovery that Kate has been in his gym in Magic Bleeds. I think I've possibly worn a permanent groove in the spine. That's just my favourite scene in a book that has many standout scenes.

I'll also include in my unforgettable scenes, any love scene from the earlier Linda Howard contemporaries. Perhaps there's a bit of a trend here? For LH I'll just say - waterfall, ladies room and french is my second language. I'm sure anyone who's read the books will know exactly what I mean. :)

So can anyone put me out of my misery and let me know which book the oyster scene is from...pleeeease. Does anyone else have a scene from a forgotten book stuck in their head or does this only happen to me? What about standout scenes - any that completely made the book for you?

Hey Lesley! I have lots of those scenes in my head.

They seem to get sparked by something I'm doing. Like, I'll be watching TV, an advertisement will come on, and somehow I'll correlate that to a book I've read.

Scenes that stick out to me:

Bella's Needing from Lover Awakened, still one of the most erotic scenes I've ever read.

Gage gets the flu from Sugar Daddy. I love Liberty's slow realization that Gage might be more interested than she realizes.

Melanie's mourning scene from Virgin River. I cry every single time I read this scene. It's just gut wrenching, as is the scene after it, when Jack takes care of her.

I could go on and on. I love when a scene really wrests an emotional response from me.

Can't help you with locating your oyster scene I'm afraid
From recent reads I loved the scene in Sparks by Laura Bickle where Sparky and anya trash a Baby Superstore together.

Oh I get bits of scenes stuck in my head.

From Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas the scene where they're playing chess and he reveals that he's loved her forever. OMG, wonderful.

Bella's needing scene - absolutely memorable.

Rhage and Mary behind her couch when he's feeding her.

Jake and Adrien's first kiss in A Dangerous thing - yum!

And there's a scene from some uber-erotic porn type book I read when I was 18. lol I remember the scene but couldn't tell you the name of the book or the author.

Kati - Glad to know I'm not the only one. Bella's needing is a great scene. I love the bit when Vishous says he'll take over. :)

Sullivan - I'm beginning to think the oyster scene may not exist. Lol - possibly it's something I dreamt rather than read? I'm still hopeful someone will be able to tell me otherwise.

Tracy - ohh lots more good scenes. I really like the first love scene between Jake and Adrien in the second book.

My favorite unforgettable scene is Chapter 32 in One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. A very hot scene!

Stephanie - lots of my favourite unforgettable scenes come under the heading of hot too!

Damn! I have read the oyster/neck licking bit...but for the life of me I can't remember what book it's from! I know I read it recently. Give me a little time, it may come to me. If so I'll let you know. There goes another sleepless night! Thanks!

I've read the oyster scene, too! I have no idea where. That's going to bother me. Someone should ask this over at the smart bitches site. They know everything.

This just came to me - I think the oyster scene is from a book with a wealthy, experienced hero and a poor/naive heroine. I know that doesn't narrow it down really, but that's sticking to memory of that scene.

Jessica and Abbie - Yay! At least now I know I wasn't making it up.

As for movies? The Last of the Mohicans is one of mine too, but it's the part where the other sister looks defiantly at the "bad guys" and throws herself off the cliff because her love died *sniff* absolutely unforgettable. (but I did forget the character names lol!)

One of my favorite scenes in a book ever is in Suzanne Brockmanns Force of Nature when Jules tells Robin he can wait for Robin to be "ready" to come out of the closet and Robin pulls Jules close to him and says "Yeah, but I can't." I waited for like 3 books for that scene...it was awesome :)

The oyster scene totally sounds familiar. Could it be from Lisa Kleypas' Suddenly You? There was a lot of "food seduction" in that book. Very sexy. ;-)

One unforgettable scene for me is from Susan Elizabeth Phillips' Ain't She Sweet, where Sugar Beth is serving her ex-friends at a cocktail party. Heartbreaking and redemptive.

Another unforgettable scene is the beach scene at the end of Lanyon's The Dark Tide, Jake's words to Adrien get to me every time.

Kati: Love that scene in Sugar Daddy!

Hey LeslieW, read anything by J. D. Robb recently. It hit my as I was going to sleep last night, I read the whole series in July through August. I wanna say the scene in question was fm one of those books, but which one????

LesleyW said...

Elaine - I love Robin and Jules. One of the scenes that stands out for me from their story is when Robyn comes out to his sister.

Renee - I've never read Lisa Kleypas so it wasn't one of hers. And that scene from Ain't She Sweet was awful to read (in a good way). It was like a recall of the worst memories of high school.

Jessica - I haven't read them recently but I have read a lot of the In Death books so it could be one of them. Maybe the mystery is solved?

Hi I'm new to this site, but I read this I'm pretty sure the oyster scene you're thinking of is from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Fantasy lover.

LesleyW said...

Hasard - thank you. I have Fantasy Lover on my bookshelf so I will check this out.

Hasard - you're right! Thank you for letting me know.
